Cover of Glepnir

Glepnir by Sun Takeda

Shuichi has the power to turn into a monster, after saving Claire from a fire they discover she can control his body by climbing inside of him. The two team up to fight the other monsers in the woods that have been appearring around town. Unknown to them, both of their pasts are tied up in this battle.

Very good series, I am not a fan of many stories with a lot of fighting, so I was pleasantly surprised with Glepnir. Around the middle of the series it's revealled there is way more going on, Shuichi and Claire are part of a far darker mystery in the center of the chaos. I'm a big fan of dark mysteries, cool monster designs, and weird body horror, this manga was a perfect mix of the three.

The only big criticism I have is that Glepnir continues after the story is over... with totally different characters. The story is tied up, bad guys defeated, main characters talking about moving on and all that good stuff. Turned the page, and see a totally different cast of characters preparing to fight the same villian. I chose to end the series at book eleven, it was a satisfying end to the series and it felt like extending it needlessly really took away from that satisfaction. I do reccomend Glepnir, it's a great series, just stop reading at book eleven.

Cover of MadK

MadK by Ryo Suzuri

Makoto sees no point in living anymore, he has no friends, his family are ashamed of him, and he's ostracized for his strange hobby. But if he's going to die why not sell his soul to a demon? Makoto summons J, a powerful demon who offers to fulfill any desire in exchange for his life, Makoto asks for his deepest kink, to devour J.

J fulfills Makoto's request, but instead of killing him, he brings him to the demon world. Makoto finds himself in a world where violence is the same as sex and the rules are deadly. If he wants to find his footing Makoto has to learn fast and can't trust anyone, especially not J.

This is an ero guro book, let's get that out there, I am reading this because I like fucked up sex. The plot is pretty straightforward but still compelling: Makoto wants power over J, but in order to gain said power he must learn J's name, but since J is so powerful few know his name. Makoto has to track down J's past to learn his name, he learns to use seduction and words to get what he wants. The art is gorgeous, the ero guro is beautiful, and the world is compelling, if you're a freak like me you'll probably enjoy it.

Cover for The Summer Hikaru Died

The Summer Hikaru Died by MokuMokuRen

Yoshiki's best friend Hikaru dissappeared in the mountains to perform a ritual for the town. He's been back for 6 months, but Yoshiki knows he's not Hikaru, at least not the one he grew up with. Yoshiki won't tell anyone, he's the only one who knows Hikaru isn't hikaru.

Yoshiki and Hikaru both hold unsaid feelings for the other, and their secret brings the two closer together. But spirits are closing in on the town and some people are catching on.

I am insane about this series, let's just preface with that. I love the classic trope of someone coming back wrong, I love that Yoshiki knows Hikaru isn't the Hikaru he grew up with but wants him in his life so much he chose to ignore it for so long. I love the weird, eldritch, borderline ero Hikaru invites Yoshiki to partake in. Honestly the less said the better, I love this doomed supernatural romance, go read it.
